5 Steps To Improve A Bad Day

5 steps to improve a bad day

Who hasn’t had a hard day? One of those days where you get up and everything seems to be conspiring to drive you mad? Is there anything we can do to make a bad day better?

The soap ran out, the breakfast toast burned. You leave the house and it starts raining unexpectedly. People are looking at you as if you’ve done something wrong. You say something and understand otherwise. And everything, absolutely everything, goes wrong.

You prepare a work assignment  with dedication and, in the end, the results are disappointing. Or a date with someone special is canceled after you’re all set.

Nobody is saved from a bad day. The truth is, you don’t just have to accept it. You can always do something to improve a bad day and rescue those nightmare-like periods. In the end, it’s another day to live. And whenever there is life, there will also be ways to fix what is not going well.

1. A break to improve a bad day

Stressful situations sometimes take advantage. They start with a malaise, continue with a growing restlessness and, when you least expect it, have already turned into a nervous wreck that is about to explode. If you stop stress in time, your bad day will get better.

Every time stressful situations arise, take a short break. And, if you can, a longer break. Take the opportunity to breathe, listen to beautiful music or read something happy. Or simply take a short walk. This will help to de-stress and also help you to think more clearly.

2. Refuse to fulfill your own prophecies

Just because one day gets off to a bad start doesn’t mean the rest of it will be the same. Nor does a bad moment mean the beginning of a bad stage. However, sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that what is bad portends a worse period.

So, without realizing it, we began to formulate our own negative prophecies. We say phrases like: “I had better not get out of bed”. Or “I’m not lucky today” and phrases like that. When least expected, we are making these mental programmings a reality.

The key lies in shifting the focus of attention from negative to positive, or at least finding possible alternatives. Searching for solutions helps us improve a bad day, instead of doing nothing and just complaining.

3. Change your body chemistry

Bad moods and stress cause chemical changes in the body, especially in the brain. They activate some hormones, but they also inhibit others. Well, however, you can’t get out of that state anyway. It is then necessary to do something to change this chemistry.

One way to achieve this is to do a little exercise. It could be a brisk walk or some light activity. Also, why not, some kind of dance. Moving around helps restore that lost chemical balance. Another option is to consume some healthy foods, especially fresh fruits or vegetables.

4. Focus on what is constructive

You can always learn something from whatever happens. Just adopt the right attitude. You simply have to open your mind and ask if there is any learning in what happened. What does all this tell you?

It’s also important to keep positive ideas in mind. Think, for example, of those days when everything works out. Remember pleasant memories. Look carefully and appreciate the good things around you. Give thanks for all this.

5. Get over yourself

A bad day is also an excellent opportunity to demand more. Yes, demand even more. If you do half an hour of exercise every day, do an hour. If you normally do your job well, do it better. Spend more time and effort. You could also do something special for someone you never paid attention to.

Sitting on the couch and interrupting your activities is not an option. Nor can you spend the rest of the day complaining. On the contrary: the discomfort you feel must be channeled into additional effort. This will probably make you feel better about yourself. You will see how your mood improves.

Remember that no matter what happens, a bad day ends too. Tomorrow the sun will come out again. If you managed to handle all these circumstances, this tomorrow will be much better than today. It is in your hands that it be so.
