Meditating Is Resting The Mind To Initiate A Dialogue With The Soul

Meditating is resting the mind to initiate a dialogue with the soul

There comes a day when, out of the blue, we need to rest our mind: turn off its noises to tune into that inner voice that we’ve neglected for a long time, but which has a lot to tell us. Meditating is, above all, a reunion with our soul, a vital connection to find answers in these times of rough seas.

There is no single reason why a person chooses to practice meditation. Sometimes it happens by chance: someone has a pain in his back and he is recommended to practice yoga. From there, almost without realizing it, they start to meditate. There are many schools and different approaches to this ancient art.

Furthermore, we can also say that meditation has different meanings depending on the context. Although it is not linked to any particular religion, it is a very important component in many faiths. The spiritual aspect aside, psychology’s interest in meditation is based on many reasons, and it is used for therapeutic purposes.

Meditation mainly focuses on the ability to “self-regulate the mind” and its processes so that we can achieve balance between thoughts and emotions. It’s something very interesting, something that is achieved through planned training and can, without a doubt, complement many strategies and therapies when we go through moments of stress, anxiety or depression.

Let’s think about it?

Meditate to restore inner balance

For many people, talking about meditation is talking about Buddhism. However, we must remember that druids already used these techniques to connect with nature and divinity. For this, they had to face a series of obstacles that they called “the four sorrows”: nostalgia, the pain of loss, envy, and the difficulty of the journey. Something that no doubt sounds slightly familiar.

If a person goes a little deeper into the complex and interesting world of religions and spirituality, he will realize that there are fundamentals that are common to all of them. Mircea Eliade, a well-known philosopher and historian, said that the moment man looked at the sky for the first time and discovered the stars, he was bewitched by this calm and this almost divine magic. Something had to happen in this dimension that was so far removed from the needs and sufferings of humanity.

Since we have the use of reason, we want to find that calm, that inner balance with which we reach a more intuitive understanding of things, a wise and profound serenity to invoke the true “I” that resides within us and that somehow , would allow us to get to know each other better and connect with everything around us. If we think about it, finding this inner balance is currently very complex. We live in a stressful world where we need to make decisions quickly, and this wear breaks this divine dimension that is our self-esteem.

Stop being a slave to external circumstances

Nobody can control 100% of what happens in our external environment. However, we can control how these circumstances affect us. Believe it or not, we all live daily with a series of internal saboteurs that we don’t see, but they are there. They are the mites of our conscience and we need to face them skillfully and intelligently.

Our main internal saboteurs are:

  • The worries.
  • Living in the past.
  • To spend life judging others and ourselves.
  • Be critical of others and ourselves.
  • Blaming ourselves for everything that happens around us.
  • To be an inveterate catastrophist.
  • Being a slave to doubts and hesitations.

When a person starts to meditate, he starts a contemplative journey where he can perceive all these dimensions. But, far from contemplating these negative aspects with contempt or derision, we will see them with the calm of someone who is not capable of judging and understanding that change is always possible. Meditation is, above all, treating yourself with love and respect, to find our goals and come out strengthened from this moment of peace and balance.

Choose a type of meditation and take care of your brain

Currently,  science has proven that meditation generates very positive changes in our brain architecture. For example, it increases cortical thickness, which is an area related to introspection and attention. In addition, it increases connections in the hippocampus or frontal area, structures related to emotions or decision-making.

Meditation is something worth knowing. There are different types of meditation, from which we can choose the one that best suits our personality and moment of life.

Here we will mention some types of meditation:

  • Buddhist Meditation
  • Transcendental Meditation
  • Vipassana Meditation
  • Zazen Meditation
  • Kabbalah Meditation
  • Mantra Meditation
  • Sufi Meditation
  • Dzogchen Meditation
  • Chakra Meditation

Of course, it is not essential to follow a specific type of meditation. Meditating is an exercise in which we can reach a state of awareness and relaxation that will benefit a range of cognitive and psychological processes. Often it is enough to close our eyes and visualize positive images while mentally verbalizing statements that fit our needs at the moment. For example:

  • I have complete confidence in myself.
  • I am free to make my own decisions.
  • I listen to my intuition.
  • Nothing and no one has the right to take away my inner peace.
  • I am not less than anybody and nobody is less than me.
  • I dare to initiate change and fight for my happiness.

To conclude, often, in order to maintain or regain our vitality, in these uncertain and complex times, it is necessary to follow a reverse path: instead of running to try to escape, the best solution is to find oneself again. For this, nothing better than starting to meditate.
